River levels continue to fall and we are pumping in various locations to accelerate washland drainage. We are not expecting a significant river response from the rainfall currently forecast for the next couple of days, and tides will be falling until Friday, allowing levels to continue dropping. However, further rainfall is forecast in the upper catchments over the weekend and early next week, which combined with high tides peaking on Wednesday, could result in the washlands filling again next week. Our field teams are monitoring the situation in daylight hours and our incident room remains open. To report property flooding, call 0800 80 70 60. This message will be updated by 14:00 on 06/03/20

River Aire
This Flood Alert remains in force as the Lower Aire Washlands are mostly full and flooding continues to affect communities. Roads are affected in the area. The River Aire rose slightly due to last night’s rain, 29/02/20, but not to levels which would see further water enter the washlands. Peak tides are falling until Thursday but will continue to combine with high river levels to slow the drain of washlands, keeping levels high into next week. Significant draining of washlands will only occur once river levels drop enough. Scattered showers are forecast for the next few days, and we do not expect this to cause more water to enter the washlands from the river. We are pumping water to support washland draining and have deployed sandbags to help protect properties at risk. Check routes before you travel and do not drive through floodwater. To report property flooding call 0800 807060. This message will be updated by 19:25 on 01/03/20, or if the situation changes.

River Aire
Water levels in West Marsh and Hirst Courtney wash-lands remain high despite falling levels in the River Aire upstream. Higher spring tides in recent days have held back the flood water but these will fall after this morning’s high tide. This warning will remain in force until levels have reduced and the risk has passed. Further rainfall, particularly in upland, Pennine areas is forecast for 15-16 February and we will continually review our forecasts and impacts on the lower River Aire before it arrives. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and do not walk or drive through fast moving water. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the situation from our incident room. Please see GOV.UK for a 5 day flood forecast, and for weather forecasts, see the Met Office. This message will be updated by midday, 13/02/20, or as the situation changes.
